Dear Fellow Solopreneur, There’s a magic moment that I love to witness as a coach and trainer. It goes something like this: During a phone session, a client shares with me all the work and planning they’ve done since our last meeting. They’ve put all the pieces into place to ensure their success, whether as a writer, photographer, massage therapist, or professional home organizer. And after talking through the exciting details of their impending solopreneurial lifestyle, the client says, “I can do this!” From that point on, they change. They have more energy, more ambition. They are happier. This single moment transcends everything they’ve been telling themselves for years. It crashes through the walls of self-doubt and self-imposed obstacles. And it gives me goosebumps. “Of course you can do this!” I rejoice. And soon, they are embracing their role as a solopreneur. It’s such a moving moment for me because it echoes my own experience. After more than 12 years as a trainer and coach in corporate and nonprofit America, I put my passion and skills to work helping small business owners grow into their full potential, embrace their dreams, and feel empowered. Growing my own business, I have experienced the uncertainties that many of my clients have felt. But through it all, a voice in the back of my head followed me like a loyal friend. “I can do this,” it said. It followed me through my coaching certification and hours of practice with other coaches. It stayed with me as I fulfilled a dream and traveled to Africa where I touched and was touched by places whose spiritual nature inspired me. And it’s with me still as I work with clients whose one passion is to be their own boss doing something they love. “I can do this.” Four empowering words. And I love hearing them from budding solopreneurs who won’t take “can’t” as an answer to their dreams. I hope I’ll hear you saying them soon.
