Biography I have many experiences and years to cover so I am going to bullet my major ones and hope this will be an easier read. •I was born in Hawaii, my father was in the service, and I was raised in Aberdeen, So. Dakota. •I graduated from North Eastern Il. University with a major in Education and a major in Psychology. •I was married in 1968, started teaching and soon became an Assist. Principle. *married an only child whose parents were who were distant, cold and had marital problems *husband had depression – found this after we were married and years of working through it found there was a chemical imbalance that has been corrected thru medication. •We have four children, three girls and a boy. •Father-in-law had a business in which he had someone else in the business who was not his wife and his wife was barred from coming in and he played his only son against a cousin – tension!! •I was on of the starter of a Junior Women’s Club in our area, served on many committees with the church and community and headed a huge fund raising project. •I was the mediator in the family between my sister and parents and was there as my sister’s support with her rocky marriage and then abusive husband which I helped with the minister to get him professional help. I am glad to say they survived and have been married for 45 years. •I became the major caregiver for my parents – worked with agencies and found a wonderful live-in person for them – followed my parent’s wishes as they moved to the town we live in because of the relationship with my sibling. •Father-in-law passed away – split the company between his “two” women leaving no mention of his son nor grandchildren and caused a big court battle that went on for two years because of his verbal talk to his relatives which gave them cause to sue and the illegal way he set things up. Long story short, court threw out suits and finally the business went to my mother-in-law. •Ten years later my husband asked me to come into the business, which I had not been around, to teach some business courses. I found the general manager undermining my husband – told him and he went down in a depression and left the business for me to run. Through determination, long hours, studying business books at night and picking a few people to help me we fired the ones who needed to go and turned the business around in eight months into a good profit range. Result: husband came back in after two months absence and mother-in-law put in front of a lawyer to complain about how I was doing things. Lawyer told her the company was thriving and her choice was to fire her son who was Pres. who picked me to run things. I was there 18 years. •When my mother passed away, my sister turned on me and I had not had contact with her for ten years. My father had dementia and per a previous understanding, he went to live with my sister. I was told if I wanted to see him I had to give three months notice and they would be present ------ when my father died, I was not informed of the funeral and thusly was not there. When relatives found out why I was not there, she got an ear full Result – she called me and I had to make a choice of forgiving or let this fester in my life •My very best friend died seven months after my mom – she died of a fast moving cancer and I had another friend die several years later also of cancer. •Our children all graduated from college and two girls and the son got married. Two fo oue daughters stayed where they went to college, Ca. and Co. One of our daughters, married 11 years, went through a divorce --- thank goodness no kids involved. •Three and a half years ago we lost the 57 year old business due to the importing from China and then the banks, namely Bank of America, decided to not be a helping force to small businesses. Our oldest and youngest were third generation in the business and they, along with us, lost their jobs and what we thought would be a bright future. Our kids got jobs but our son moved to a different state to get a job. My husband and I lost our future, our income, health insurance, our careers and had to go through the auction of a company that we owned all the machinery, office landscape and etc. •I started substitute teaching to get a little something going. •I knew we had to redefine ourselves --- I always was interested in coaching and our daughter introduced us to Rachel and that is how we got to iPEC. •With our health insurance gone, I was in a helpless state because I have RA and no insurance company wanted to insure people with pre-existing chronic illness. My husband could go on Medicare but I had to wait. Last March I went on Medicare and that is also when I got diverticulitis and had emergency surgery. iPEC was wonderful and all my peers were too ---- I needed to take a little longer but I am now certified. •Right now we are in the process of selling our home --- we need to get to a cheaper place. •Exciting news --- we are going to be grandparents for the first time any minute now; I am a requested sub in the district and now I am starting coaching --- what praises! |
